POPCORN
Extra Incentives
The preparation of the popcorn sales have begun! On top of the incentives the council and district are offering, you will also have an opportunity to have amusement at your pack or troop meeting. The pack or troop that sells the most popcorn in measurement of dollar value gets to throw a pie in the face of  Chris Arndt, Glacier’s End District Executive. The unit that increases their popcorn sale percentage wise over last year in measurement of dollar value gets to shave the head of Chris Arndt, Glaciers End District Executive. The percentage increase has to be beyond the minimum of 25%.
Many people are wondering about the mysterious additional 1% a unit may gain in their popcorn sale for meeting their membership goal. The answer is simple. If your pack or troop is able to recruit just one boy more in 2010 than you did in 2009, you will receive the additional 1%. Post Cards will be sent to each pack and troop to let them know what their goal is. The goal will be determined by the number of boys recruited between the months of Sept. and Dec. in 2009. Further instructions will be sent to your Cub Masters and Scout Masters.

BOY SCOUT RECRUITMENT

The Boy Scout Recruitment Challenge.
There is a magic bullet! There is a sure fire way to get new Boy Scouts into your troop! It is not difficult, and it's almost a guarantee!
Are you ready for it?
Here it comes!
PROGRAM!
That’s it!
Have your boys invite a friend to a camp out or a Camporee.
There are several upcoming District events that are perfect for the boys to participate in. While the Glaciers End Fall Camporee has past Clear Water, Tall Oaks and Blue Hills are going to be holding theirs in September! Clear Water’s Fall Camporee is featuring the Tracking Merit badge and is on September 24th-26th. Blue Hills Fall Camporee is Backing and hiking on Sept 24th-26th at Camp Phillips.
These are great opportunities to bring in a new boy or two, but they key factor is to have them fill out the application at the event or before the event.

CUB SCOUTING
That’s right; Cub Scout recruitment season is on us! With it comes the Big Blue Wave of Blue Uniforms! School Nights are in the process of being planned and there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Not only is this a time to sign up new Cub Scouts, but this is a great time to sign up their parents as leaders. If the parents are bringing their boys for the school night, they are 90% going to be joining that night. Do what you can to focus in on the parents.
  2. Each new boy will be receiving a Hot Wheels car for signing up at the school night. This year the car is only for the new boys and after they sign up and pay for their registration.
  3. There are people who will try to sneak out of the program. Keep your ears open for phrases like “I left my check book in the car” or “we need to think about it”. If an application leaves the door without being filled out, the boy will not sign up.
  4. Have calendars and all materials ready. The worst thing you can do is to look unprepared to the new parents and leaders.
  5. Call the boys from your pack’s Dropped Boy List. Sometimes all it takes is a quick phone call to restart interest in a program.
  6. Market as much as you can for the school night. Hand Flyers up at grocery stores, churches, libraries, open houses and any place there will be a lot of people. If you advertise, they will come.
  7. Most importantly, make the school night fun. This is the first scouting experience for a good number of the boys and it should be one that they will have fun with.

Get ready because the wave is coming. It's best to prepare to hang 10 or you may drown in the middle of it all.
